This year we begin our first tentative steps back into the world of in-person conferences and workshops. We have sorely missed those chance meetings with friends old and new and sharing knowledge which sparks ideas and future collaborations.
After a couple years break, we will certainly be making the most of networking, discussing research and presenting ideas despite all the new ways of working, socialising, and travelling. As an atomic force microscope (AFM) probe manufacturer, we’re particularly keeping an eye out for all in-person AFM events possible!
Having said that, there are still many online conferences for those who do not feel safe attending in-person events yet. There’s plenty of benefits to these events, including greater accessibility. You can find out more about this in our previous blog “AFM Conferences: What are the pros and cons to online conferencing?”.
Without further ado, this month we share with you our picks for conferences both in-person and online that are worth your attention and attendance! Read on to find out more…
Upcoming Conferences
The following meetings and conferences are listed in order of soonest to latest date.
1. The Virtual RMS AFM & SPM Meeting 2022
We are pleased to share we are sponsoring the RMS AFM & SPM Meeting 2022! The RMS AFM & SPM Meeting 2022 will be a hybrid event held online and in person at Sheffield University on the middle day between 4th – 6th July 2022.
The programme includes invited speakers, featuring our own Managing Director Dr James Vicary giving a Techno Bite talk on ‘Automated SEM for wafer-scale inspection of AFM probes’, as well as posters and flash presentations.
The meeting promises to have a strong focus on methods with “nuts-and-bolts” talks to complement lectures, break-out rooms for questions and Panel meetings where developments in the field can be discussed.

2. Gordon Research Conference: Multiscale Mechanochemistry and Mechanobiology
The Gordon Research Conference will be held in Ventura, California between 31st July – 5th August 2022 where it is expected there will be attendance by the AFM community.
The objective of GRC is a ‘cross-disciplinary discussion on how molecules and their higher-order assemblies respond to forces and how this response influences material behaviour at multiple hierarchical levels’.
The conference will involve keynote sessions, discussions, poster abstract short talks, the GRC Power Hour (designed to address challenges women face in sciences and issues of diversity and inclusion), and a poster session. The programme includes speakers who do AFM with molecules from either synthetic or biological origin. The deadline to apply to GRC is 3rd July 2022.

3. 23rd International Conference on Non-Contact Atomic Force Microscopy
The 23rd International Conference on Non-Contact Atomic Force Microscopy will be held in Nijmegen (the Netherlands) between 1st – 5th August 2022.
The event is described as ‘cover[ing] experimental, theoretical, and instrumental developments in frequency modulation and other dynamic modes of scanning force microscopy with particular emphasis on high-resolution imaging and force mapping’.
The conference offers a welcome reception to participants on the Sunday, followed by oral presentations and three poster sessions over the coming days. Excursions to various site are also offered as well as the conference dinner on Thursday afternoon.
Early bird registration ends 20th June and final registration ends 11th July 2022.

4. AFM BioMed Conference
The AFM BioMed Conference is set to take place between 30th August – 2nd September 2022 in Nagoya-Okazaki (Japan) organised by Professor Takayuki Uchihashi.
The conference is dedicated to life sciences and nanomedicine applications, particularly focusing on how AFM can solve biological bottlenecks and provide solutions for healthcare.
More information for this conference will become available in due course.

5. NanoScientific Forum Europe (NSFE) 2022
NuNano is excited to share we will be supporting the NanoScientific Forum Europe 2022! The NanoScientific Forum Europe (NSFE) 2022 will be held virtually between 6th – 7th October 2022.
This year’s research focus will be on SPM applications and techniques that empower to transform life standards. The event ‘will talk about emerging nanomaterials for advanced technologies, functional surfaces and hybrid materials as well as innovative methods in nanotechnology and correlative microscopy’.
NSFE 2022 will cover SPM methods such as nanomechanical and electrical characterisation, characterisation of soft materials in liquid environments, advanced imaging, high resolution imaging, and automation in AFM.
The deadline for registration is 20th September 2022.
