Ebru Cihan is a postdoc at the Institute of Materials Science of TU Dresden working with both Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti and Prof. Enrico Gnecco. Her academic studies mainly focus on the tribological properties of nanomaterials investigated through AFM.
During her graduate education, she worked with Mehmet Baykara on a project based on investigating the effect of interface structure on friction at nanoscale. Later, in her doctoral study under the supervision of Martin Dienwiebel, she focused on the effect of subsurface deformations on the resulting friction and wear behavior of gold and nickel metallic multilayers. After earning her PhD, she worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in Andre Schirmeisen's group to further investigate the atomic mechanisms of superlubricity and contact aging. She is currently studying the multi-contact friction dynamics of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) on different types of materials.

Biography: Ebru studied Materials Science and Engineering at Anadolu University (now Eskisehir Technical University, Eskisehir, Turkey) between 2009-2013. Later, she continued her graduate studies at the Materials Science and Nanotechnology Center (UNAM) of Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey) and received her master's degree in 2015. In January 2016, she joined the Applied Nanotribology group at the Institute for Applied Materials-Computational Materials Science (IAM-CMS) at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) (Karlsruhe, Germany) as a PhD student and earned her PhD degree in 2019. During her doctoral studies in 2018, she received a Research Travel Grant from KIT's Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS) and was a visiting researcher at Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque, USA) for 3 months. After receiving her PhD, she continued her academic career as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Applied Physics at the University of Giessen (Giessen, Germany) between 2019-2021. Since November 2021, she has been working as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology at TU Dresden (Dresden, Germany).
